We just finished our first year with the boat and removed the floors and table and want to refinish both. Any ideas on removing water stains on floors and what type of product to use on both.. the table has never been done and is really not in bad shape.. just fussy... Thanks Peter Davis CS 34, For Pete's sake, Shediac, New Brunswick..

Peter, For the floors, you'll want to strip them down completely. Chemical stripper is nasty but very efficient. I use Circa 1850 Heavy Body Paint and Varnish Remover www.swingpaints.com/1806.htm available at Rona. Next you'll want to use a teak restorer. I use Natural Marine 2 part teak cleaner. www.alexmilne.com/resources/pdf/teak_care.pdfThis is what gets rid of your water stains. Finally, topcoat it with about 6 coats of Goldspar varnish www.yachtpaint.com/usa//product_guide/varnishes/US_goldspar.asp?ComponentID=9816&SourcePageID=20606#1 Use a good quality brush. The best you can afford. A badger brush would be the best, but they are pricey. After your final coat, you can wet sand it with 600, then 1000, then 1500, then 2000 grit paper to get it all levelled out, buff it out with compound and you wil have a glass finish. For the table, 2 coats of the Goldspar will work fine after sanding the entire surface with 220 grit paper. Make sure the surface is clean and degrease before revarnishing. Use denatured alcohol to wash it down.
